Rep. MayfieldResponds to Rauner’s State of the State Address

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, issued the following statement following Gov. Rauner’s State of the State Address:

"Throughout the first three years of his term, Governor Rauner has caused reckless damage to people in this state who need help the most. While he has refused to do his job and instead leaned on the merits of the blame game to get himself out of jams, members of the General Assembly have focused on protecting hard working families and the most vulnerable people in the state, while creating an economy that works for everyone, not just the rich and wealthy.

"I’m not sure how Governor Rauner can say he wants to make our state a prosperous place for job creators and workers, while just weeks ago, he was essentially doing everything he can to put a spotlight on reasons that Amazon shouldn’t choose Illinois for its new multi-billion dollar headquarters.

"Although history has shown differently, I am hoping and wishing that the governor will uphold a commitment to come to the negotiating table on important matters with an open mind and intended goodwill for all of the people of our state; to be able to disagree and not be disagreeable; and to be able to compromise with both Democrats and Republicans for the greater good. If the governor continues to opt out of leading, we will have no other choice but to continue to move forward without him to pass a budget, lift up the middle class and fix the problems the governor creates through his own manufactured crises.”
