Mayfield Hosts Community Shred Day

Mayfield to Host Community Shred Day to help Residents Safely Dispose of Personal Documents

WAUKEGAN, IL – To help protect against identity theft by properly disposing of personal documents, state Representative Rita Mayfield (D-Waukegan) is inviting all residents to a Community Shred Day she will be hosting along with AT&T, Waukegan Main Street, and the City of Waukegan on Saturday, February 23.

“Everyone needs to be careful when it comes to throwing away documents with personal information and this event helps do just that,” Mayfield said. “Our Community Shred Day will offer local residents and businesses a safe and environmentally-friendly way to properly get rid of sensitive documents. This is a great opportunity for people to stop potential fraud and identity theft.”

The Community Shred Day will take place on Saturday, February 23, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 100 N. Sheridan Rd. inside the City of Waukegan Parking Lot D. Residents may bring any documents that contain personal information to be shredded including: old tax returns, old bank statements, credit card offers, old bills, outdated medical records, pay stubs, and receipts.

“We have all heard of identity theft and it is essential to take the necessary steps to protect our families from these crimes,” Mayfield said. “I encourage all residents to attend the Community Shred Day to take advantage of the free services and resources that we will be providing.”
