Mayfield to Host Town Hall Meeting on Proposed ComEd Infrastructure Modernization
Legislator to hold forum to gather public input on proposed automatic energy rate increases

Waukegan, IL - State Rep. Rita Mayfield (D-Waukegan) invites the public to participate in a town hall meeting focusing on a proposal by ComEd to modernize the region's electric utility infrastructure. The meeting will take place on Saturday, May 14th from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Waukegan City Hall located at 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

"I am hosting this meeting to ensure that the community has the opportunity to be informed about how our utility companies operate, and how this will affect them in the future," Mayfield said. "It is important that I gather public input on this issue so that I can make an informed decision on how this might affect the quality of life for people and businesses in my district and across the state."

The topic of discussion will focus on ComEd's proposed Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act, currently under consideration in the legislature as House Bill 14. The bill would allow for ComEd to make a $2.6 billion investment to upgrade its electric grid in order to deliver better service to business and residential consumers with increasing demand for electricity.

According to ComEd, the modernization would create 2,000 jobs in Illinois, reduce power outages and help consumers save money by installing smart meters in every home to reduce energy use. Officials from ComEd will be on hand to give an overview of the proposed Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act and answer questions.

"Although, local economies have begun to show signs of improvement, there is still a lot of work ahead in order for communities and households to regain financial stability and complete recovery," Mayfield said. "I urge everyone in our community, to come learn about this issue and share their thoughts on how public utilities can be better provided to our community."
