Rep. Mayfield Responds to Rauner’s Budget Address

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Gov. Bruce Rauner stood before the General Assembly on Wednesday to deliver his 2018 State Budget Address. Following his remarks, state Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, issued the following statement:

“Governor Rauner has, yet again, failed to bring forward a real balanced budget for our state. It’s especially disappointing because last month he promised to bring us a complete balanced budget, but the truth is, this is a story we’ve all heard from this administration since Bruce Rauner took office in 2015; bogus accounting mixed with speculative revenues and unfounded savings through programs that don’t even exist yet.

“How can he say he wants Illinois’ government to invest in people who need us the most, yet the cuts in his proposed budget will decimate social service programs in those same areas? We’re going to have to take it upon ourselves to do what’s right for people in our communities, because I have no faith that the governor nor his administration intend to do anything outside of play political games and point fingers while the legislature has had to work on its own on critical budgetary and policy decisions.”
