Mayfield Encourages Young Artists to Participate in ArtWauk

10/10/2012

Waukegan, IL - State Rep. Rita Mayfield (D-Waukegan) and the Lake County Art League invites students of all ages to be part of the Waukegan downtown art community by participating in ArtWauk, a monthly event aimed at highlighting the artistic endeavors of the community.

“I am honored and excited to showcase the young artists of the State of Illinois 60th District. The mission is to be a catalyst for advancing the economic, social and cultural life of the 60th District through the arts.”

The Lake County Art League’s goal is to provide students with an opportunity to have their artwork framed and exhibited to the Art Community.

All schools in the district were contacted encouraging the children to create artwork around a theme. The theme for grades K-5 “What makes me happy” will be displayed at ArtWauk until December. The middle school and high school artwork will be displayed after the new year.

All artwork that is chosen will be on display in either State Representative Mayfield’s district office or the State Capitol. Selected students along with their art teacher and parents will also be invited to attend a reception in Representative Mayfield’s office during ArtWauk.

ArtWauk is held every third Saturday of the month, and features some incredibly talented artists and musicians in downtown Waukegan galleries and businesses.

For more information regarding ArtWauk visit www.artwauk.com or contact Representative Mayfield's full time constituent service office at (847) 599-2800.
